Library closed for reorganization project

After years of considering and planning, the library is finally ready to do a BIG reorganization project. Most of the work will focus on the adult fiction sections, where titles will no longer be categorized by genre, merging everything into one “Adult Fiction” section that will include mysteries, romances, science fiction, and fantasy titles.
There are a few reasons we are doing this:
To Save You Time And Hassle
Right now, your favorite author might have books in several different sections of the library, which can cause confusion, or have you searching the stacks. After reorganizing, an author’s fiction titles will all be shelved together, regardless of their genre. This might even help you discover new titles written by authors you already enjoy!
To Save Library Staff From Playing “Guess That Genre”
Many books do not fall neatly into one genre, combining elements of mystery, romance, fantasy, and more. With our current shelving arrangement, we are forced to choose one location for a book. By merging genres, we can save staff the time and effort it takes to make these decisions, and avoid putting a book in a location that may not be a perfect fit.
To Save Space On Our Shelves
Stopping and starting sections uses more space than shelving everything together. Also, grouping all of an author’s works together helps us more efficiently “weed” our collection of titles that aren’t getting much circulation, so we can make space for new books.
If you’re wondering, “How will I know if something is a mystery? Or a romance?” Fear not! We will still be adding genre stickers to the spines of books, and tags in our catalog to help you find what you are looking for. Large print will still be shelved separately, as well as graphic novels.
The library will be closed August 18–22, 2026 for this project, which will also include moving all of the adult nonfiction section and doing some other reorganizing if time allows. No materials will be due this week, but if you want to return them, you can use the library’s drop box in the parking lot.
