The Buchanan District Library now participates in MeLCat the statewide union catalog and resource sharing project to share materials among all types of libraries in Michigan. This gives our patrons access to millions of titles not available in our own library and these titles are delivered directly to our patron all at NO COST! Follow these easy steps to request MeLCat materials or stop in and have the staff walk you through the process.
1. Use the icon on the library website homepage to access the MeL Catalog.
2. Select your search criteria: keyword, author, title or series title. Type in your search term. Click the Find It button
3. A list of materials matching your request will open. Click on a title for more info about an item. When you have chosen the item you would like to order click on Get This For Me!
4. The next page will ask you to choose a library from the pull-down menu. Scroll through the list of libraries and highlight Buchanan District Library. Click the Submit Button.
5. Type your name and library card number. And click on Submit. If you receive a message that the request was successful you are finished. The item will be delivered to the library and you will be notified when it is available. If you received any other message you will have to contact the library staff for assistance. Order no more than 5 items at one time.
All items should be returned to the Buchanan District Library by the due date indicated on the item; renewals must be submitted by the due date.
How to use My MeL
To renew, cancel or track your MeLCat requests log on to your MyMeL account at the top of the MeLCat search page. Simply click on that tab and log in as you would to request an item by choosing the Buchanan District Library and entering your name and library card number. In your MyMeL account all your requests and checkouts will be listed. Items may be cancelled if they are listed as requested. Once marked in transit they cannot be canceled. Items you have received are listed with their due data. These items are renewable one time as long as the renewal is submitted before the due date.
The staff is available to offer training with MelCat requests. Please ask the staff if you have any questions or need assistance.
